Having only turned vegan earlier this year, we have seen the incredible transformation that a plant-based diet has had to our bodies: our energy levels are higher, skin feels supple and looks bright; nails, hair and eyelashes are the healthiest they have ever been and we feel more energetic and generally lighter. If this is what eating plants can do for us, surely filling our homes with their green power can only be a good thing?!
Who doesn't love a houseplant?! The right plant in the right room can do so much and is an instant way to refresh your decor. Whether it be a Chinese evergreen to create a tropical feel, a gorgeous fiddle leaf fig tree for that wow factor or some English Ivy to bring woodland vibes into your home; the options of gorgeous houseplants is endless. But these living organisms can do so much more. Studies have shown that plants interact with your body, mind and home in more ways than most are aware of, so much so, they can actually enhance your quality of life.
Plants clean the air, sure, we all know that. But a direct effect of plants removing toxins from the air is a decrease in fatigue, colds, headaches, coughs, sore throats and flu-like symptoms.
And the next time you need that energy fix, put down that sugary caffeine drink and soak in some plant power instead. A study at The Royal College of Agriculture in Cirencester found that students demonstrate 70% greater attentiveness when they’re taught in rooms containing plants; meaning a succulent on your desk not only looks great but can also make you more productive!
Feeling good around plants should probably not be surprising, after all, we surround ourselves with plants during celebrations (i.e. weddings, birthdays etc); so could it be we are not just drawn to them for their aesthetic beauty but because of an unconscious awareness that they make us feel good?! Try it out... pick yourself up a potted pet and see how you get on...
Give your new green addition a gorgeous basket to sit in with our range of Mexican palm baskets. Handwoven by artisans in Oaxaca, they come in various colours and sizes, making them great pot holders, as well as storage for any room in your home.
Oh and one last thing... make sure you talk to your plant too! Talking to plants is not only therapeutic but can help them grow. Just ask any avid gardener out there. Which got us thinking if talking kindly to plants makes them grow... imagine what speaking kindly to humans can do?!
